ok so BEFORE you go and say I'm being hypocritical, let me explain.

YES, I myself am a blonde, but completely NATURAL. I have NEVER dyed my hair. I do like my hair color.

That being said, what is with the obsession with blonde hair?? why do so many girls dye their hair blonde? brunette hair is gorgeous...i lust after dark locks....

does anyone know why sooooo many girls dye their hair blonde? i don't get it.

I am a brunette, a very dark one, almost black. I do highlight some in the summer and add reddish tones in the winter, but the blonde shades will not work for me. LOL

I've noticed that blondes do get more attention from males. Why I do not know exactly, but from what I've been told (by male friends, exes, female friends) is that blonde is a more eye-catching color. Think "oooh shiny". Also it seems that some (most that I've met) blondes have more outgoing personalities therefore attracting more attention.

As to why women dye their hair blonde, they just want to cash in on the "blondes have more fun" stereotype (not meant in a bad way), or think they look better with blonde hair.

I don't know many people who are going lighter these days. My friends and I who were previously highlighted have gone darker and darker brunette. Seems to be the trend.

I dye my hair a different colour every few months. Right now, I'm loving being a blonde. I don't know.... it's just nice and bright and cheery ;-)

It's because of the rarity of blondness - less than 1% of the worlds population is naturally blonde.

I'm blonde too and I think the obsession (particularly the platinum blonde one) is about attention. If you really think about it, if a blonde and a brunette walk in somewhere together, people will look at the blonde first. I don't know it's just more attention getting, not to mention all the playboy bunnies that have blonde hair.

Because the whiter you look, the "better". It is the same with light skinned blacks, considered more attractive than dark skinned.

I'm naturally blonde too- and not complaining. I do streak my hair in the front and I think many darker haired girls go lighter-well, because they can't go darker-per-say. In Southern California of course, this is the classic look-my 13 yr old is a knock out in her long blonde hair-esp. since we have so many of hispanic origion-but I agree with you-their beautiful long tresses are great-so it bugs me when they go "red" or blonde. Streaks look cool, but we have alot that do "chunks" of color-I think it looks bad.

So many women have brunette hair: Arabs, blacks (I know afro but u know wht i mean), Hispanics, Asians, etc... Even most caucasians.

Natural blondes are very rare (only Northern European trait), hence, they are seen as far more desirable: Who wants something common when you can have something rare?

PS. I'm a natural brunette and my mum's a natural blonde.

On a deeper level blond can be more attractive. Let me explain.

When many children are young, they have fairer hair. Some people I know who have black hair had blond hair as a toddler. This can often mean that people associate blond hair with young children and as humans we instinctively find children to be cute and want to protect them (so that they survive and continue on the human race).

The same applies to large eyes in mammals, because our eyes never grow, babies have proportionally large eyes, and we find this trait to be attractive and so we protect our young. It is why we find some animals cute, their eyes are so large are remind us of babies of our own species and naturally we want to protect them.

When you think about it, the myth that blondes are dumb may have an ounce of truth. Children aren't necessarily dumb, but they are childish, and also rather innocent and naive which can be seen as a lack of intelligence.

So the fact that many very young children are fair haired, gives us the impression that anyone who is blond shares those same childlike qualities.
