Dark hair to really blonde hair?

i have naturally dark brown hair, but i dyed it black. now i want it to be really light blonde but not like platinum blonde, but like ashlee simpsons hair in the music video Boyfriend. would i be able to just dye my black hair this blonde straight out, or would i have to bleach it then dye it the blond i want?

you should get a color remover (sold at wal-mart) and the choose the color that you want when you strip the color your hair will be lighter than your natural color because of how the dye affects your hair...keeo this in mind when choosing your color...the stripper wiill dry out your hair so id make sure you get a deep conditioner such as emergencee from nexxus (also at walmart) you can do it on your own!! ive never had my hair proff. dyed and it always turns out well...good luck!!

DONT DO IT!!!!! if you have dark hair and then die it blone, it lookes like crap!!i should know!! a kid in my class last year did that she looked realy bad!!!! i say just get hilights over and over till ur head is coverd!! or have a pro do it!!

I had black hair and then dyed it blonde. I had my hairdresser do it but she still had to bleach and tone it about 3 times. The first time she bleached it, my hair was kinda orange andit got better the next couple times. But it is a pain in the butt. Not to mention the damage it does to your hair! I have bleached my hair too much so now it won't dye and I am stuck with blonde.

I'd advise going to a salon to get it fixed.

If you try to bleach it and dye it on your own it could turn out orange.

But if you're set on doing it yourself, L'oreal ColorZap should help. It'll take all the color out of your hair and make it ready to dye it again. Sally's carries it and it's about $10 a box.

NO!!WHAT EVER YOU DO..DO NOT BLEACH OVER IT!! I dyed my whole head black once and I wanted to go lighter to but it is a long process that takes time.First your going to have to go to a salon and get the black stripped out of your hair.Doing that takes a few hours but its worth getting the black out.After that the stylist will tell you which color is the lightest you can go.After about 2 weeks or longer..I would wait longer speaking your hair is already damaged enough from stripping,go back to the salon again and go lighter.You will not be able to do a light blonde right away.Your hair gets really damaged and dry from stripping and the bleach will only make your hair look not only like straw but it could fall out.Go to a salon and talk about it with them.DO NOT COLOR OVER IT YOURSELF!!You will make such a big mistake.The color wont come out right.This can be an expensive process...so if you really want that black gone now start saving.

Even he/she might have to do two or more steps to get you where you want to be. If you are not careful you could totally ruin your hair trying to bleach it out in one step.

Oh, you did what I did! Black is the hardest color I've ever tried to get out of my hair. I have medium brown hair naturally, I put lots of heavy black lowlights in my hair, and dyed the entire bottom half black, then later I decided I wanted to try the blond thing. I ended up paying a lot of money for a hairstylist to help me out...but every 6 weeks when I'd go in for my appointment she kept making it brassy. BLEH - I hated it.

Finally I tried someone new and they used a bleach called "Pravana" it ended up working better than any other product a stylist tried. I would try to find someone who uses that brand on bleach.

So the black to blonde is possible, it just usually is quite a lengthy process. Good luck.

You shouldn't try to do this yourself. The color will have to be removed, your hair stripped of color and then colored up the the shade you want after. Only a professional should do that. You will ruin your hair if you try to do it yourself.
